Gutter maintainability is a major theme in Vim.
You can create custom Gutter rules for different editors.
One of the most popular is “gutter-mode”.
This is the default Gutter mode for Vim, which means that Gutter elements are not visible to users outside Vim, except when they’re explicitly marked as visible.
You may want to turn this off if you’re not using a Vim plugin that provides an external tool to make editing Gutter easier.
This is an example of Gutter settings in Vim: GutterMode=:gutter_mode The above command creates a Gutter rule that specifies that the following elements are visible: gutter-status :show gutter gutter :selected gutter
